S.O.I.Pom.I.

Development of OI Services for Knowledge and Organization of the Industrial Tomato Supply Chain

S.O.I.Pom.I.

S.O.I.Pom.I. aims to further enhance the role of the Industrial Tomato Interbranch Organization (OI) in generating and managing information to support the supply chain, acting as a guiding link between the agricultural and industrial sectors to increase the value of tomatoes in the market.

The OI intends to provide supply chain operators with an innovative tool for consulting information on a territorial scale, which, by leveraging satellite monitoring technologies, can improve the management of industrial tomatoes.

The project aims to develop a monitoring system based on Sentinel 2 satellite images (from ESA) to identify the total tomato acreage, distinguish between early and late crops, track phenological development, identify meteorological issues, and monitor the progress of tomato harvesting.

Additionally, the project includes creating an IT platform for Producer Organizations, processing industries, and the OI itself, to convey tomato monitoring data, enable assessments, and support decisions such as variety selection based on yield and suitability for processing different product types, as well as agronomic or logistical choices.
